The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has sent this Friday a letter to the Island Directorate of Education of the Canary Islands Government proposing a provisional alternative to cover the needs of the students of the CEIP Uga. The initiative proposes that the school dining service, as well as early reception and late pick-up, be provided at the Mimitos children's center, located just in front of the school.

According to Noda, this proposal responds to the lack of space in the CEIP Uga to implement a school dining room and the urgency of offering families a resource that facilitates the reconciliation of work and personal life. “The school does not currently have adequate facilities, but the daily dynamics of parents require a temporary and urgent measure”, he explained.

The mayor also recalled the “magnificent experience” lived this summer at the Uga camp, in which the Mimitos nursery and numerous families from the municipality participated. “The satisfaction was widespread, and after talking with the center's management we believe that Education can reach an agreement, given that Mimitos has approved facilities and sanitary permits to offer a school dining service”, he stressed.

Noda also highlighted that this summer the City Council allocated 140,000 euros to improvement works in schools in Las Breñas and Femés, which allowed the implementation of the dining service in both centers. “There was collaboration with Education and political will, so we trust that this proposal for Uga will receive the same support. Currently, Yaiza and Playa Blanca also have a school dining service”, he added.

On October 10, the mayor will hold a meeting with the General Directorate of Educational Infrastructure and Equipment of the Canary Islands Government, where he will reiterate the City Council's willingness to cede municipal land for both the expansion of the CEIP Uga and the construction of the future Playa Blanca Institute.
