The Yaiza City Council already has the project for the conditioning of the road that runs between the IES Yaiza roundabout and the entrance roundabout to the town of Puerto Calero, 2.4 kilometers long, drafted and with a building permit. From the Consistory they recall that this is "an old demand transferred by the City Council to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which for the moment still does not recognize the ownership of the road despite the fact that its layout compromises the municipalities of Tías and Yaiza."

"Although the road should have been integrated into the island's road network years ago, we will seek funding to undertake its conditioning, budgeted at 950,000 euros," said the mayor, Óscar Noda.

The Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza explains that "the basic work is the repaving and improvement of the road surface, but the project also orders the conduction of rainwater, the construction of two shoulders, one of them, the one on the west side, two meters wide to facilitate the practice of sports, and the paving of the esplanade used as a bus parking lot for IES Yaiza."

The project, according to the Consistory, contemplates "a much safer road with two traffic lanes, one for each direction, three meters wide." In the words of the mayor, "these are forceful improvements that we want to implement in an aging and exhausted infrastructure due to the high density of traffic it has been supporting, the one that deviates from the general, the LZ 2, and the traffic that endures from the road that connects Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen."

As a provisional measure, the City Council will paint the lane separation and road edge demarcation lines next week "to improve road safety, especially at night, when drivers require greater orientation."

Yaiza has always argued that the official cartography of the Government of the Canary Islands establishes that the layout of the IES - Puerto Calero road crosses the municipalities of Yaiza and Tías alternately, therefore, the Institution understands that the Cabildo should incorporate this road into the island network. In this regard, it emphasizes that the Canary Islands Road Law establishes in its article of General Provisions that "roads that run through more than one municipal district may not be classified as municipal."
