The Yaiza City Council approved this Friday in Plenary the ten municipal taxi licenses pending this definitive award, so once the new public transport vehicles are operational, the service will go from 67 to 77 cars.

A fact that the mayor Óscar Noda values positively "since it will allow us to take a qualitative leap in the coverage of the service in the different time slots, especially in Playa Blanca where we have greater demand. We have no doubt about the professionalism of the taxi drivers, so we wish success and profitability to the professionals with newly admitted licenses and to the entire sector."

For its award, the Councilor for Transportation, Beatriz Vázquez, emphasizes, "the city council has adhered to the concession bases, widely publicized, and the preferential merit of salaried drivers who have been providing the service in our municipality, mainly considering their continued and duly justified seniority. We answered the allegations with technical reports in hand and the process has been totally transparent."

The City Council commissioned a socio-economic study that justifies the increase in taxi licenses, considering aspects such as the increase in the population of the municipality, the greater demand for the taxi service, which only by telephone accounted for an average of 35,000 services covered in the months of March to July 2023, and the growing mobility of travelers between the town of Playa Blanca and the airport, among other reasons, reasons that were endorsed by both the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands.

The beneficiaries of the new licenses have the commitment to provide a vehicle of the tourism category for the provision of the taxi service with an age not exceeding two years and with a minimum capacity of six seats and a maximum of nine seats, including the driver's. Yaiza trusts in a substantial improvement of the service in terms of reducing waiting time.
