The Yaiza City Council continues to carry out various actions in the municipality's schools in preparation for the return to school next Wednesday. "Up to fifteen municipal workers worked throughout the weekend and will continue to do so morning and afternoon, even this festive Tuesday, to complete the work that the centers have requested, such as the exterior lighting at the IES," said the mayor, Óscar Noda, who affirms that he will thus fulfill "the commitments acquired with the directors of the schools and the IES and the educational community".
For his part, the councilor responsible for the maintenance of public buildings in Yaiza, Rubén Arca, has supervised the various actions carried out by the City Council, among other things to "condition the buildings to the contingency plans against Covid -19".
Yaiza has also reiterated to the Cabildo of Lanzarote the "concerns regarding transport transferred to the corresponding department in the first half of August." Among them and "the most urgent", the reinforcement of the frequency of the bus line that connects Playa Blanca and the IES Yaiza, given that the vast majority of students enrolled in the first and second year of high school in this public center reside in the tourist town. In addition, it also demands "a solution to the transportation of students from other towns".
The City Council also requested a stop on the same plot of the IES to prevent boys and girls from moving to the one located near the roundabout, as well as the implementation of a bus pass sales point at the Playa Blanca Bus Station.
"The school year is about to begin and we await a response to a request that is only logical. If the course already begins with uncertainty, in Yaiza a solution to transportation is also pending, which, if not given, could lead to absenteeism," warns the mayor of Yaiza, who stresses that "a single bus would be insufficient considering the number of students who will complete the afternoon session".
