The Yaiza City Council published last Friday in the Official Gazette of the Province the call for aptitude tests aimed at obtaining the municipal taxi driver's license. Interested persons have a period of twenty calendar days to submit their application, counted from May 23, the day after the publication of the announcement. All information with requirements and forms to fill out is published on the virtual notice board of yaiza.es and at the link of the Transport Area of this same municipal website.
Among the requirements, the accreditation of training focused on customer service stands out, "and it was for this reason, and for the improvement of the service in general, that the City Council and the Lanzarote Tourist Federation carried out a free qualification course in customer service aimed exclusively at the taxi sector, both for professionals who practice the activity and for those who wish to begin their journey providing this public service," notes the Councilor for Transport, Beatriz Vázquez.
Aspiring women and men must possess the relevant class driver's license and meet the conditions required by current legislation to drive vehicles intended for passenger transport issued by Traffic, have no criminal record, and pass the aptitude tests, among other requirements.
According to the Municipal Ordinance, the aptitude exam assesses knowledge of the municipal street map, referring to public roads, places of tourist interest, hotels, and emergency care centers, and knowledge of traffic legislation, namely vehicle circulation, ordinances, and applicable tariffs.
The City Council advocates for the improvement of the service and the image that each professional projects on the collective they represent. In this regard, the training experience in customer service underscored the decisive role of the taxi driver and their interaction with the user, moving from being just a driver to becoming the friendly face of the municipality and Lanzarote.
