The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, signed this Friday the decree of award to execute the project of intervention of the urban vertical signage of the municipality with a total investment of 305,000 euros, including taxes. Its purpose, in the words of the southern president, is to "achieve a correct orientation for drivers and pedestrians and continue updating the infrastructures of our quality tourist destination", in this case adding resources from the City Council's accounts and funds from the Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The works will be carried out in Yaiza, Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero, Las Casitas, Femés, El Golfo, the surroundings of Salinas de Janubio, Las Breñas and Uga. The Councilor for Urban Planning of Yaiza, Jonatan Lemes, notes that "the project includes criteria for dimensioning, colors, typography, typologies of destinations to be signposted, pictograms, location and materials of the so-called unitary sets, the modules that we see in the streets that offer information on how to get to the different destinations or points of interest located in a town or city".
The way in which drivers perceive and interpret the information from urban signage sets is fundamental to achieve safe driving without hesitation. The City Council of Yaiza responds with this project to the lack of guidelines to orient themselves through signage, considering also that tourism is an economic activity of growing importance, so an optimal signage favors the development of the first source of income of the municipality and the Island.
The new design of the information modules aims to homogenize the type of urban signage in the municipality. The awarded company must now present the relevant documentation to sign the contract on Thursday, December 15.
