The Yaiza government has approved the incorporation of 17 million euros of treasury surpluses from the settlement of the 2023 financial year to the municipal budget for the current year.

The City Council informs that it will be invested in the continuity of works of the resurfacing and accessibility plan in different southern towns, new implementations of inclusive and accessible playgrounds, completing the equipment of the Playa Blanca soccer field with stands, dressing rooms and cafeteria, construction of the new Playa Blanca library, execution of the sanitation project of the town of Uga and the rehabilitation of the Playa Blanca promenade between the access area to the new port and the vicinity of Marina Rubicón, among other municipal initiatives.

The mayor and councilor of Works, Óscar Noda, has highlighted that "we revert the economic solvency of our accounts to the well-being of citizens, maintaining the municipal debt at zero euros since 2018 and strictly complying with all our obligations such as the punctual payment to our suppliers".

The mayor also specifies "that of the 17 million, the City Council reserves 1.2 million euros for any extra initiative", "apart from another 9.5 million of the total available surpluses as sufficient margin to face any incident that may arise during this 2024 financial year". The final settlement of the year 2023 reflects a surplus of "30 million euros for Yaiza".

Regarding the sanitation of Uga, the mayor explained that "we have sufficient resources for the part that we must contribute to the subsidy of 1.5 million euros received from the Government of Spain for the execution of this project that we are about to put out to public tender". Another of the projects to be executed is the construction of a skate park in Playa Blanca, while the intervention in road improvement works will focus on the nuclei of Femés, La Hoya, Las Breñas, Yaiza, El Golfo and Playa Quemada.

In addition, they have announced that Yaiza is ready to "tender the resurfacing and canalizations in the streets surrounding the health center and the sports complex of Playa Blanca when the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands executes the expansion of the health center on land ceded by the city council. And also a library in conditions for Playa Blanca that is "a demand to screams" of the citizens.

Noda points out that "the drafting of the execution project has already been awarded and is about to deliver the final project" of the same". "The objective is to provide a space with a large reading room, individual and group study rooms, together with a computer room and a multipurpose auditorium", details the mayor. Yaiza has "500 thousand euros of a subsidy awarded by the Government of the Canary Islands" and the municipality will contribute the remaining amount until reaching the "2.5 million" of the estimated value of the project.

"The City Council has projects and money to execute, but of course we will not renounce what corresponds to us from other administrations as a municipality with an important specific weight in the gross domestic product of the Canary Islands", concludes Noda.
