The San Bartolomé City Council has informed the residents of Playa Honda of the start of the works on the underpass under the LZ-2 and the closure of some roads for this reason. This project aims to improve connectivity between the residential and commercial areas of the town, as well as decongest traffic.
The Councilor for Public Services, Roads, Transport and Traffic of the San Bartolomé council, Raúl De León, confirms that, “due to the aforementioned work, the service road in the direction of Princesa Ico street towards Calle Mayor has been marked and closed. We continue to bet on the modernization of Playa Honda, turning it into a friendlier city.”
For his part, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez Martín, asks for “apologies to the population for the inconvenience that the work may cause. We are looking for a better coexistence between pedestrian, cyclist and driver. This work seeks to alleviate the current underground link under the LZ-2, which supports a minimum of nine thousand vehicles a day, creating a new one in parallel. It is about creating another underground passage parallel to the current one, but in this case with a design that facilitates both pedestrian and road traffic, favoring pedestrian and cyclist communication. At the same time, we are complying with the agreement reached in the previous legislature with the Government of the Canary Islands.”
The work, which has an approximate duration of six months, was awarded a few months ago by the Government of the Canary Islands to the company Señalizaciones Villar S.A. with an allocation of 3,813,768 euros.
