The Arrecife City Council has already started the works to place the sculpture "Barlovento", by the Lanzarote artist César Manrique, in the roundabout in front of the Arrecife Gran Hotel. As confirmed by the Councilor for Works and Services, Antonio Machín, the operators have begun the work that, in the first place, will focus on "reaching the signature to build a concrete base that supports the structure."
"Barlovento", the popular sculpture by César Manrique, will thus return to the center of the capital, after it was removed from the Islas Canarias park in 2003, at the beginning of the works of the new public space and parking lots. This work had been in this park since 1970 and the new government group of the Consistory had committed to the César Manrique Foundation to bring this sculpture back to the center of the capital.
Thus, the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Pedro de Armas, met on February 1 with the president and the director of Foundational Activities of the FCM, José Juan Ramírez and Fernando Gómez Aguilera, respectively, and decided to place said work in the roundabout in front of the Arrecife Gran Hotel.
This work by César Manrique was stored in a council warehouse in Argana.
