The Cabildo de Lanzarote takes stock of the project for the employability of women victims of gender violence 'Wheels for Employment', on the occasion of International Women's Day. This initiative, coordinated by the Nos Movemos Foundation, seeks to facilitate access to employment in the passenger transport sector for women. Currently, a total of ten women, equally divided between foreigners and Spaniards, benefit from this plan.

The event held this Wednesday, on the occasion of March 8, was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo; the island councilor for Social Rights, Isabel Martín; the councilor for Equality, Myriam Barros; the director of the Nos Movemos Foundation, Rosa Martín; the training manager Deborah de León, and several participants in the project.

Dolores Corujo highlighted during the presentation that this project "has contributed to the inclusion of women in vulnerable situations, to make visible once again the social problem represented by gender violence and, above all, to share the hope that these women have achieved after obtaining employment that provides them with autonomy, security and empowerment."

For her part, the island councilor for Social Rights, Isabel Martín, thanked the Nos Movemos Foundation for coordinating it. "It is a very special day for women and it is very emotional for us to share the results of this initiative that represents the Cabildo's commitment to this group," said Martín.

In the same vein, the councilor for Equality, Myriam Barros, highlighted the collaboration with the island Department of Social Rights for the successful implementation of the project and "the great reception of this to bring us a little closer to a more than necessary equality."

The testimony of one of the women benefiting from this project moved those present. Mari Carmen Iglesias is one of the victims of gender violence who has seen in this project a job opportunity and the peace of mind she needed. "To all women I say, you can get out of a difficult life, let's remove the stones from the road. If they don't help us remove them, we'll remove them ourselves," she encouraged her colleagues.

Throughout the months of execution of the project, all the training aspects established by the project have been carried out, in which there have been no dropouts by the participants, pending the presentation for obtaining the D+ CAP Card since the annual call for it is scheduled for the month of February, so the practices in the company will be carried out in the month of March and the labor insertion in it is estimated in April.

Job opportunity, in a male-dominated sector

The participants of the project stated that they were "highly satisfied" with the training received, as well as with the job opportunity that is presented to them in an area that perhaps they would never have been able to access on their own.

In figures, a large part of the women benefiting from the project are between 31 and 40 years old, are from the municipality of Arrecife, were unemployed and are equally foreign and Spanish.

The initiative is promoted by the areas of Social Rights and Equality of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, coordinated by the 'Nos Movemos' Foundation and is financed by the Canary Islands Institute of Equality, subsidized by the State Pact Funds.
