Vox in the Arrecife City Council has registered a motion for debate and approval in the next ordinary plenary session so that "the current Government addresses the heads of the Canary Islands Autonomous Police so that they are installed in the capital of the Island, in part of the dependencies of the old Local Police building".
The two Vox councilors, Eugenio Hernández and Jorge Enrique Barrios, are aware of the "number of complaints they receive daily from residents, who see little police presence on the streets of Arrecife, both from their Local Police and from the State Security Forces, in both cases police forces that have been absolutely under-equipped for years." So much so that citizens "find the excuses given by the political leaders of the day, those of the central government and those of the local government, ridiculous, unable to understand that the ratios that determine the number of agents must be in line with the population being protected, with the number of inhabitants in the area."
"Clearly that is not happening in Arrecife, where there is an obvious lack of agents, not to mention the provision of equipment for those who currently work to ensure the safety and rest of citizens. The capital of the Island is home to more than 40% of the population and there are numerous problems in the municipality that are not addressed," explains the municipal spokesperson, Eugenio Hernández, in his motion.
Vox recalls that with the new development of the Canary Islands Autonomous Police, with "more than 180 newly hired personnel", and the regional government's intention to "locate new facilities in Lanzarote and La Gomera", it is necessary to "reflect and make urgent decisions so that the excuses of the past are not used so that these much-needed places are not finally created." "That is why we urge this Plenary to agree to the transfer of part of the dependencies of the old Police station, according to its needs, according to the number of personnel that would be assigned to Arrecife," Hernández emphasizes.
The Vox spokesperson, who demands that "this proposal also be addressed to the Island Council and the Autonomous Government, believes it is necessary that this issue does not fall on deaf ears, "as is customary in Lanzarote", hence he sees it as "essential to get ahead in terms of an infrastructure offer for these new agents." "If they finally fulfill their promise, which is something that remains to be seen, it is obvious that the new agents of the Canary Police, even if they provide an island service, must have their headquarters in Arrecife.
"For the moment we have had this idea, although we are open to others, always with the hope that the taxes we Lanzarote residents pay correspond to the services we receive in return. It is clear that this is not the case with citizen security," he concludes by way of reflection and complaint.
