In its next edition, the Lanzarote Film Festival invites reflection on peoples understood as forms of coexistence, shared memory, social organization, and belonging. The theme will allow for addressing issues linked to community life, territorial transformation processes, knowledge transmission, the relationship between local and global, and the tensions that affect contemporary communities.
In 2018, the Film Festival launched a new phase aimed at thinking about and understanding the island of Lanzarote through cinema and numerous activities linked to the territory. The purpose of each edition is to explore a fundamental theme for the island that also has great global importance. Hence, themes such as
Wind, Salt, Fishing, or Water have been addressed, fundamental issues both in the insular context and in other parts of the world.
With the theme of Peoples, the Lanzarote Film Festival invites us to observe how communities are built, what memories sustain them, what conflicts affect them, and what forms of resistance, care, or transformation appear within them. The programming for this edition will allow us to approach these questions from diverse cinematic perspectives, considering both the cultural and social dimension of peoples and their connection to the landscape, work, history, and ways of life.
The Lanzarote Film Festival is a project organized by Tenique Cultural, a non-profit association whose main objectives are to promote, exhibit, and debate quality cinema, analyze the local context in which it takes place, and reinforce the Canarian identity on a global level.
Although the central dates of the edition will be from November 19 to 29, the project will unfold activities throughout the month, reinforcing its presence in the seven municipalities of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with the aim of bringing cinema, thought, and respect for the islands to all its inhabitants.
The Lanzarote Film Festival is funded by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Lanzarote External Promotion Society through its product brand Lanzarote Film Commission; with the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development (Canary Islands Film) and Promotur (Canary Islands Latitude of Life), and the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts, the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Culture.
