Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa (UPLG) believes that the latest ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has uncovered "another lie" by the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, regarding the skeletons of Costa Teguise.
"They still dare to say that they can't do anything about it when it is common knowledge that Justice has not only spoken, but is threatening the government of Teguise with fines, in case of not applying the demolition sentences on one of the skeletons of Costa Teguise, near the residence of La Mareta," the party argues in a statement.
As La Voz had anticipated, the formation emphasizes that more than six years ago the Second Section of the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the TSJC had to address the City Council to ask for explanations about the reasons for the breach of the ruling issued in 2007, which declared the license of that construction illegal.
At that time, in 2015, the Court already ordered the City Council to "immediately execute" the ruling, which has not yet been carried out. Therefore, it has now addressed the mayor again, warning him with possible coercive fines of 1,000 euros per month until he complies with the judicial mandate, which he should pay from his personal assets, and even with criminal actions against him.
For Unidos por Lanzarote, this is "another example of the apathy and neglect with which the Teguise government group has treated the municipality of Teguise for a decade."
"Not only have they been teasing the population for several legislatures while selling a tourist enclave that has declined in their hands, not only have they promised more than they should, as always, when elections come, with meaningless and unborn artistic contests; in addition, they have seasoned it with lies, but the citizens of the municipality of Teguise no longer believe them," he warns.
"Unfulfilled promises, lies and the desire to end up in the Cabildo and Government of the Canary Islands. That is going to be the pitiful legacy of Oswaldo Betancort and his Coalición Canaria colleagues in Teguise," the party concludes.
