The Island Union of the General Union of Workers (UGT) in Lanzarote makes an urgent call to the working class and the society of Lanzarote to mobilize in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the serious humanitarian situation and the genocide being perpetrated in the Gaza Strip.

The gathering will be this Wednesday, October 15, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in front of the Arrecife City Hall.

The objective of this action is to "make this injustice visible" and "for reflection and to not forget what has been done against the people of Gaza."

According to them, this gathering is convened due to "the pressing need to show the sensitivity, empathy, and condemnation of the workers in the face of the atrocity being committed in Gaza, where dramatic death tolls have been reported, including those caused by direct attacks and by famine."

Even if there has been a ceasefire agreement or hostage release, "we know that the State of Israel will not stop in its genocidal, expansionist, and supremacist plans. There have already been other truces that Israel has always boycotted to continue its policy of colonization and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank, attacking and besieging the Palestinian population, protected by the impunity granted by the US."

In this sense, "and consistent with our principles, we want to take the message of condemnation and solidarity to the streets of the island, so UGT Lanzarote calls for a public gathering in the capital."

From UGT they recall that, as a union, "it is not only our responsibility to be exclusively in the labor field, but also as part of our society and our solidarity." Therefore, "it is a scandal and an atrocity to look the other way" in the face of the situation.

UGT Lanzarote reiterates its call for "solidarity, to mobilize and demand an immediate cessation of violence and a firm stance for the international recognition of the State of Palestine."
