UGT Sanidad Lanzarote has reported to the Labor Inspectorate the decision of the Management of the Health Services of Lanzarote to unilaterally impose a shift change in the “Out-of-Hospital Emergencies” starting from April 1, despite the rejection of the affected staff.

Just as the union had warned, "given the refusal" of the Management to listen to the workers and initiate a negotiation process, UGT Health Lanzarote has moved the conflict to the Labor Inspectorate.

During the meeting held on March 9 with doctors and nurses of the Playa Blanca Emergency Service, the Management "reiterated the irrevocable nature of its decision, ignoring the pleas of the workers and of the union representatives, present at the request of the staff."

UGT also denounces that "the necessary substitution was not facilitated so that the nursing team could attend the meeting, which left out part of the staff directly affected by this decision".

The professionals unanimously pointed out that "the imposition of this change will provoke transfer requests for reasons of personal and family reconciliation, which puts at risk the stability of the teams".

At that meeting on March 9, it was announced that the shift change will also be applied in the Valterra and Tías Emergencies, whose professionals have already expressed their rejection and requested the support of the trade union organizations.

The workers of this service have not been called or officially informed by the Management and have become aware of this decision through colleagues and trade union organizations, despite the fact that the planned date for its implementation is April 1, which is generating great tension among the staff.

UGT believes that "the destructuring of consolidated teams, which attend to such a sensitive and specialized area as Emergencies, can directly affect the functioning of the service, in addition to worsening the already difficult working conditions of professionals." The union assures that "it will continue to use all legal avenues to defend professionals and demand a real negotiation on this change."
