The Arrecife neighborhood of Titerroy, through the Titerroy Neighborhood Association, has requested several improvements in the area from the Arrecife City Council. Among them, to turn the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Park into "a small García Sanabria."

This association has reported to the capital's consistory that the "Los Pinos" park is "in poor condition" and has pointed out "the lack of imagination of the City Council" to invest municipal, island and European funds in providing a solution.

In this line, it has requested that this space "unite the Titerroy school" and that it have infrastructure for children, young people and adults, as well as study and rest areas. It has also requested that there be "great lighting" and a "bio-healthy circuit."

For the bio-healthy circuit, it has requested that the owners of the kiosk in the square be contacted, in order to request this space, "which has been closed for years," to turn it into a park for adults.

"Its trees have resisted for more than half a century not only the unstoppable childish and youthful impetus, sometimes vandalistic, but also the, on some occasions, barbaric municipal decisions", he added in a Bulletin in which he denounced the damage in the neighborhood.

Likewise, he highlights that, despite the fact that a staircase was built in the park two years ago, the handrail, "mandatory by law," was not installed.

Other actions in the neighborhood

  • The bus shelters

In this same bulletin sent to the Arrecife City Council, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association has pointed out that, "most of the bus shelters present unsafe or unhealthy conditions," as well as that they "are in unprotected places" and "lack lighting, visibility and information." On other occasions, some stops do not even have bus shelters to take refuge from the "sun, wind and rain."

  • Lack of accessibility on the sidewalks

The residents of El Antonio, Jeréz, La Fermina, Cuencia and Faustino El Antonio streets have stressed that "the sidewalks are primitive and were made by the residents themselves when they built their homes."

  • Installation of "dead guards" to prevent run-overs

The Association insists that "they have been asking the Arrecife City Council for years to carry out a traffic study, in order to provide speed reducers to several streets: Avenida Eugenio Rijo Rocha, Calle El Antonio, La Valbanera or Tinache.

  • Dead trees and no maintenance

The Titerroy neighborhood denounces the lack of transplanting in many areas. "It has more than 12 tree pits, where the trees have died and no one from the administration has bothered to replant anything." In addition, the flowerbeds are "up to a month without cleaning."

In this line, they also criticize the work of "the awarded company, which does what it wants with public money." Thus, they assure that the "lack of control" has made it difficult for some residents to even open the window or cover the public lighting.

  • Special Road Safety Plan for entry and exit of schools

The residents request that "a special plan" be launched to guarantee the safety of minors outside the schools in different neighborhoods of the city and throughout the course.

  • Condition of roads and sidewalks

The tenth section of the bulletin sent by the association states that there are "innumerable potholes" on the roads in the neighborhood. In addition, they point out that "there are loose tiles on the sidewalk of El Puente." As well as that the state of "the manholes" is a big problem. "The City Council must demand that companies comply with their maintenance."
