The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has put out to tender the cleaning service for the surroundings of the Zonzamas Environmental Complex (CAZ), with a base budget of 143,918.73 euros, including taxes. The action aims to maintain the surroundings of these facilities and their areas of influence in adequate conditions of cleanliness and landscape suitability, especially given the presence of light waste, such as plastic bags, paper, and cardboard, originating from the treatment activity and displaced by the action of the wind.

The tender announcement was published on October 10 on the State Contracting Platform, and interested companies can submit their offers until November 9, 2026. The contract will have an initial duration of six months, starting from the signing of the commencement act, and includes the possibility of two successive extensions of two months each.

The Cabildo's Waste Counselor, Domingo Cejas, emphasizes the importance of acting also in the surroundings of the facilities to prevent dispersed waste from remaining outside the complex. In this regard, he points out that "waste management does not end at the facilities, but also requires attending to and maintaining the surrounding space in good condition, especially in an area where the wind can displace light materials, such as plastics."

Environmental cleaning and prevention at the source

The contract now being tendered, financed with FDCAN funds and the Cabildo's own funds, is part of a strategy that combines periodic cleaning of the surroundings of Zonzamas with measures aimed at reducing waste dispersion from its origin, with the objective of minimizing its impact and preserving the environmental and landscape quality of the island territory.

The vice-president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, highlights the importance of planning the investments of the island Corporation to respond to the island's needs and optimize available resources. In this regard, she points out that "collaboration between different funding sources allows us to promote necessary actions for Lanzarote, optimize available resources, and continue advancing in the responsible management of public funds."

The hiring continues the corrective measures that the Cabildo has been developing in recent years to keep the spaces around the Zonzamas Environmental Complex and its areas of influence clean. These actions have been articulated through service contracts and projects linked to Employment Plans, which have allowed for the collection of plastics, paper, cardboard, and other light waste dispersed in the environment.
