The residents of the Titerroy neighborhood, in Arrecife, have shown their "deep discomfort and concern" regarding the state of neglect of the sidewalk on Calle La Carmen, a situation that, according to their complaints, "has persisted since August 2024 and represents a serious danger for pedestrians, students, and business owners in the area."
Despite the "constant" complaints and notifications that have been sent to both the Government group and the municipal opposition, the city council has "not taken measures" to resolve this problem, demonstrating "an alarming lack of attention to the basic needs of the neighborhood."
"It is unacceptable that such a simple repair, such as a sidewalk in poor condition, has taken months to resolve. This directly affects the safety of our neighbors and the well-being of those who travel this road daily," said members of the neighborhood association.
Thus, they have indicated that the deterioration of the sidewalk "not only generates a risk of accidents for pedestrians, but also negatively affects the commercial environment of the street, hindering access and safe transit."
The neighborhood association has reported that it has "repeatedly appealed" to the city council, sending images and technical details through the incident bulletin and the municipal registry, "without obtaining any response or action." The residents have questioned the usefulness of these communication channels and demand an explanation: "What else must we do for the Arrecife City Council to assume its responsibility?"
The Titerroy neighborhood association has demanded "an immediate and forceful response" from the Arrecife City Council. "We cannot allow this situation to continue. The lives of citizens are at risk, and this is the direct responsibility of the municipal authorities," say the neighborhood representatives. Furthermore, they have stressed that not only should the repair of the sidewalk on Calle La Carmen be prioritized, but also ensuring the maintenance and safety of all sidewalks in the neighborhood.
