The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, received this Thursday in his municipality the Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, and the general director of Cultural Heritage, Miguel Ángel Clavijo, with the aim of marking a path in the heritage and culture of the municipality.
In this first official visit, which also included the municipal Councilor for Culture, Yurena Cubas, the mayor highlighted the need to carry out modernization and updating works in the Municipal Theater, such as the placement of a new bridge of lights with automated LED lighting; equally automated screen and projector; installation of air conditioning and the provision of elevators for children in the theater seats, among other improvements.
In that sense, Jesús Machín pointed out that “the Municipal Theater is located in the House of Culture and is a unique and active cultural enclave in the municipality but that, over the years, requires small interventions”. The mayor also conveyed to the representatives of the Government that “Tinajo is a municipality that has important and diverse cultural associations of different kinds that, together with other artistic proposals, make us have an ambitious and lively cultural and festival agenda”.
For the representative of the Canarian Executive, Migdalia Machín, “it is a priority for the Ministry to reach out to all institutions to improve cultural spaces and thus continue offering art in every corner of the Canary Islands” and stressed that both institutions will work closely “to preserve the heritage of the municipality as well as expand and strengthen cultural actions that promote and value our rich Canarian identity”
On the other hand, during the visit, the representatives of both institutions had the opportunity to meet with the parish priest of San Roque, Francisco García, who expressed the need to restore the harmonium of the Church that dates from the nineteenth century, specifically from the year 1843. On the other hand, the mayor showed them the need for a project for the Municipal Archive to move to the House of Culture as well as for the transfer of Social Affairs to the old Clinic, already renovated.
For the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, “this visit confirms the interest of the Canarian Government in supporting our cultural base. The Theater is a capital point not only in the culture of the municipality, but also in the island. We believe that it needs improvement and updating to give the neighborhood of Tinajo the Theater it needs and deserves. As for the habilitation of the harmonium is a project that we have been trying for years and when we get it will be a small tribute to the former Municipal Secretary, Luis Fernández, may he rest in peace, who had among his projects that this harmonium would come back to life. Thanks to the Minister, Migdalia Machín and the Director of Heritage, Miguel Ángel Clavijo, for worrying about these issues that Tinajo needs”, concludes the mayor.
Tinajo, in the ‘2030 Routes’
Migdalia Machín also recalled that Tinajo, together with Gáldar and La Frontera, will be one of the three municipalities in the Canary Islands that will initially be part of the “2030 Routes” project, an initiative integrated into the strategic projects of the regional government that encourages rural municipalities to also get involved in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focused on promoting innovation, science and technology as drivers of sustainability, so that they participate and benefit from their positive effects on the economy and employment.
