Playa Chica, El Poril, Playa del Medio and the Risco area will be the spaces to be cleaned, which will take place on June 7 starting at 10:00 a.m. on the occasion of the celebration of Environment and Oceans Days organized by the Tías City Council. This activity, called 1m2 for beaches and seas, is part of the municipal project ZEConsciente.
The initiative has the special collaboration of the Plus Fariones hotel, which will actively participate in the garbage collection, in addition to the Urban Agenda strategy, the LIBERA project, united against littering, Seobirdlife and the Ecoembes organization.
Related to this celebration, the creation of a waste mural has been scheduled for June 8 at the El Fondeadero civic center. The artist JUIN will shape this mural, which will be on an exterior wall of the center, using the remains of plastic and waste collected in the previous days on the coast of La Tiñosa.
Oceans 2025 Award
That same Sunday, June 8, the ZEConsciente team will travel to Gran Canaria to collect the Oceans 2025 award, in the Education category, awarded by the Atlantic Society of Oceanographers (SAO). This organization offers each year a recognition to those who favor, promote and raise awareness about the need to conserve life in the oceans to guarantee the future of the territories.
The Councilor for the Environment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, highlights that "from the Tías City Council we continue working to bring knowledge of the marine environment to all citizens, especially the younger generations. ZEConsciente is a project that unites education, participation and commitment to our closest environment, and this recognition by the Atlantic Society of Oceanographers is an impulse to continue advancing in that line."
Rodríguez adds that "the cleaning of the coastline, the creation of the mural with waste and the interpreted routes in the sea are examples of actions that seek not only to improve our environment, but also to generate a collective awareness about the importance of conserving our marine ecosystems."
This project has approached the Tías and Puerto del Carmen secondary schools, Erasmus students from the latter center, as well as the La Asomada-Mácher and Concepción Rodríguez Artiles (Puerto del Carmen) schools for the development of informative days and workshops on the Special Conservation Zone (ZEC) Cagafrecho and the importance of preserving natural spaces. The ZEC is a figure contained in the Natura 2000 Network whose purpose is to ensure the long-term survival of the most threatened species and natural habitats in Europe.
In addition, this year a free program of interpreted routes in the sea began through paddle surfing or stand up paddle. During the tour, the Tiñosero coastline is revealed and the involvement of the local community is deepened to advance in the protection of the marine natural heritage. Places, which are limited, can be reserved by calling 628 410 602 or on the website www.school3s.com
Among other activities, the ZEConsciente team also participated in May in the international conference Marine Protected Areas Canary Islands 2025, intervening in the round table on the management of protected marine areas.
