The City Council of Tías opens 30 sanction proposals to individuals, businesses and restaurants in recent days for violating the cleaning ordinance and depositing garbage outside containers.

These fines will carry sanctions from 200 euros, as provided in Article 5 of the Regulatory Ordinance on road cleaning, beaches, public domain areas and urban waste collection, which establishes that "it is prohibited to throw waste, packaging and in general any type of waste, on public roads, in their accesses and in the lots, fenced or unfenced properties, and the road cleaning elements (containers, bins, etc.) must be used whenever they exist"

The Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, appreciates the important work of the Local Police, since "it is very difficult to catch people while they commit these infractions".

For her part, the Councilor for Municipal Solid Waste Management, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, asks for citizen collaboration, since "the cleanliness of the municipality is not the sole responsibility of the city council, if citizens do not collaborate it is impossible to maintain the decorum of the streets, we cannot have a cleaning operator or a police officer behind every citizen." The awareness work is already being done and will be reinforced because they understand that the path of changing citizen habits is difficult.

At the same time, she recalled that companies and businesses must resort to specific authorized managers for the treatment of their own waste generated as a result of the development of their activity.

New regulatory and sanctioning ordinance

The City Council has specified that it plans to review the cleaning ordinance in the coming months to unify criteria and toughen penalties against those who reoffend in this type of practice. Depositing garbage outside containers, on sidewalks or on the road, pollutes the public highway and also favors the presence of insect and rodent pests, which generates a risk to public health.
