Students from Tías can apply from this Monday until November 28 for the City Council's social emergency aid for students based in the municipality for the 2025/2026 academic year. The City Council grants subsidies to those who meet the requirements and are pursuing university studies outside and within Lanzarote, training cycles outside the island, and non-attendance university studies.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, explains that "these are complementary grants, compatible with other scholarships from public or private organizations, which seek to alleviate the expenses derived from studies, especially for those who must travel off the island or assume additional costs of residence, transportation, materials, or tuition. We encourage all students who meet the requirements to submit their application within the established period."
The Councilor for Education, Miriam Hernández, considers "institutional support for all families with young people who wish to study on or off the island to be of vital importance." Hernández clarifies that "academic excellence is rewarded, but the social and economic situation of the family is also taken into account."
### Deadlines for applying for aid
The Official Bulletin of the Province (BOP) published on Friday the resolution of the Department of Social Services, announcing the call for applications for emergency social aid for students residing in the municipality for the current academic year. This resolution establishes a period of 30 business days from its publication to submit applications, so the deadline expires on November 28.
Applicants can download the call for applications and the necessary annexes for the application on the Notice Board of the Electronic Headquarters of the City Council.
Applications can be submitted in person or through the Electronic Office/All Procedures/General Application, attaching the previously downloaded documents and signing them digitally.
### You can receive up to 1,000 euros
Miriam Hernández recalls that, according to the terms, these grants will allow a student pursuing university studies outside the island to receive a minimum of 1,000 euros, while those enrolled in university studies in Lanzarote and training cycles outside the island will receive a minimum of 650 euros. For their part, non-classroom-based university studies may receive a grant of 400 euros or more.
The amount of the grants will be increased by 25% for those applicants who form a family unit with more than one member studying off-island and who meet the requirements to access them.
