The Tías City Council has announced that "soon" it will submit to public information the municipal ordinance regulating the conditions of circulation of Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMV), after having already completed the prior public consultation. Once this last procedure has been completed, it will proceed to its initial approval.
Tías affirms that the ordinance clarifies "the legal framework applicable to PMVs and, in particular, clarifies the definition of this type of vehicle and the applicable traffic regulations so that users and law enforcement officers in charge of traffic surveillance and regulation are aware of the requirements, rights and obligations, as well as prohibited behaviors when driving them."
Among the specific rules for the circulation and use of PMVs on urban roads in the municipality, the City Council points out, "their authorization to circulate in the bike lane on the sidewalk, provided that the width of the cycling infrastructure allows it and only in the direction indicated in the lane, at a maximum of 10 kilometers/hour and respecting the road signs."
The Councilor for Mobility, Sergio García, emphasizes that the ordinance "establishes the priority of pedestrians and specifies the obligation to circulate on the bike lane of the urban road when it has said lane, and adds that in the bike lane, bicycles will have priority."
In addition, they add from the City Council that the minimum age for driving them "is set at 16 years or under 16 years with a moped license", in addition to the fact that "the use of a helmet will be mandatory when circulating on public roads in the municipality."
Regarding circulation on the road, it allows its circulation on streets "that have one lane in each direction or a single lane as long as the maximum speed allowed, in all its lanes, is equal to or less than 30 kilometers/hour, with PMVs being able to reach a maximum speed of 25 kilometers/hour and respecting, in any case, the existing road signs."
