Vox is now clear about who their candidates in the Canary Islands will be. This Thursday, with the announcement of Santiago Abascal's visit to the islands, the party has presented the names that will lead the regional and island lists of the party. In Lanzarote, two well-known names will represent VOX, their candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands will be José Luis Cubillo and the candidate to lead Vox in the Lanzarote Island Council is Óscar Pérez, former mayor of San Bartolomé.
"Trying to move this project forward, but with great enthusiasm," began the Vox candidate for Lanzarote for Parliament, José Luis Cubillo, this Friday in a radio interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
Until now, José Luis Cubillo dedicated himself to politics from a union branch. The current Vox candidate was a union delegate of the Professional Association of Prison Officials, Head of Penitentiary Institutions Services and Vice President of the National Association of Heads of Penitentiary Institutions Services.
His leap into politics came from weariness and the need to lead a change. "Many times one thinks that complaining and complaining is good, but sometimes one has to take the bull by the horns, go out there and try to make things go well." This is the reason that led the unionist to make the leap to regional politics ahead of the May 2023 elections.
Within the political spectrum, for Cubillo "only VOX remained", paraphrasing one of the most common slogans of the party led by Santiago Abascal. Despite making his candidacy for Parliament public, the prison official is still not clear about the main topics of debate that he will address.
"I am not a politician in the traditional sense, I am a prison official, I could give some ideas that are a bit biased towards what I am, what I want is, together with my team, to soak up the people on the street, the citizens," he responded on the morning show Buenos Días Lanzarote.
In the absence of clear objectives to start the campaign, Cubillo is preparing to go out on the street with the island candidate Óscar Pérez and learn about the concerns of the people of Lanzarote. "It is not my ideas that must be taken to parliament, but the ideas of the people," he emphasizes.
For his part, Óscar Pérez has gone through the ranks of the Popular Party and the Canarian Coalition before announcing his candidacy with VOX. This announcement was made on the eve of Santiago Abascal's visit to the Canary Islands. The most visible face of VOX will spend the 3rd, 4th and 5th in some islands, but for the moment he is not passing through Lanzarote.
