The Cabildo of Lanzarote received this Wednesday in the Plenary Hall several members of the UNINSU Sports Club (United Insular), in an institutional act that highlights the role of adapted sport on the island. The reception was headed by the president of the Institution, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the counselor of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, and the counselor of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón.
Oswaldo Betancort has stated that “initiatives like that of Club UNINSU reflect the commitment of this governing group to the Island Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion. We are on the Island of Care, and it is a public demand that all citizens can develop their lives inclusively, also through sport.”
In the same vein, Councillor Marci Acuña has stressed that “this type of project not only promotes physical activity, but also generates spaces for coexistence, integration and personal development. They are part of a global strategy that seeks to guarantee equal opportunities and reinforce the inclusive nature of our island.”
Councillor Juan Monzón congratulated the members “for the tremendous work carried out by the UNINSU club in favor of sport and inclusion. The work they do is incredible, a perfect union for the promotion of sport on our island and, furthermore, placing Lanzarote on the national scene.”
Reference in inclusion
In representation of the club three players attended, among them its president Javier Roldán, in a meeting that served to recognize the trajectory of this team, considered a pioneer in Lanzarote in the practice of electric wheelchair hockey. It is, furthermore, the second club of these characteristics in the regional scope.
The UNINSU Sports Club trains in Teguise Village and is made up of eight players, in a mixed team with ages ranging between 10 and 32 years old. Its activity is framed within the promotion of adapted sport and social inclusion through sports practice.
The institutional reception takes place after the team's recent participation in the IV Friendship Tournament Villa de Malgrat, held last March in Barcelona. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Inclusion Area, the team has been able to compete in this event and will continue its sports calendar with its participation in the Promises League 2026, scheduled for next April 16 in Madrid.
For the Cabildo it is "excellent news that Club UNINSU is already known by other teams at the national level, with which it continues consolidating itself as a benchmark in adapted sport".
