The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches presented this Monday in the Plenary Hall of the institution, Vientos de Alegría, a scenic show that unites music, dance, and theater to vindicate the essence of the Carnival of the island and its deep link with the sea.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the importance of this proposal for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the island: "Vientos de Alegría is not just a show, but a vindication of our essence. It is a song to the memory of those who preceded us and an invitation to look with pride towards the future, with the certainty that our heritage will continue to live; for this reason, from the Cabildo we must be clear that it is our responsibility, not only economic but cultural, to maintain the traditions that make us unique."

For his part, the Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, stressed the effort of all the artists and creators who have made this tribute to Lanzarote possible: "This show is a clear example of the talent and creativity that enrich our island. And, above all, it is a tribute to our identity, to the fusion between the traditional and the contemporary, and a unique opportunity to reconnect with our roots."

Tribute to Los Buches and the Carnival of Lanzarote

Vientos de Alegría revives the magic of the Carnival of Los Buches, one of the oldest and most unique traditions of the Canary Islands. Designed for the enjoyment of the whole family, the show will transport the public to the essence of the seafaring carnival, with the iconic masks of mustaches and cheeks, the buches and the festive satire that characterizes it.

The work will open with the unpublished Dance of the Renegades, composed by Ernesto Alemán on piano and choreographed by Rubén Valiente, with the co-direction of Vanessa Pérez. After this opening, the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches, directed by Roberto Gil and with the sub-direction of Sergio Betancort, will begin the central body of the show, linking rhythms and melodies with the acting interpretation of Isabel Cabrera, Germán Barrios and Eduardo Curbelo, under the direction of the scenic producer Ubay Alemán.

The show will feature the participation of the Los Buches dance troupe, the Rubicón Folk Group dance troupe, and the performative action of Mararía, which recovers the traditional Carnival Sheets, adding a nod to the festive and ancestral essence of the island.

The unique performance will take place on Friday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the Víctor Fernández Gopar Theater "El Salinero" and will feature the participation of prominent artists and cultural groups.

Graphic image and heritage research work

This year, the graphic image of the show has been designed by the artist, writer and illustrator Lana Corujo, who has opted for a contemporary poster with clean lines and flat colors. Her proposal recovers the essence of the Carnival and impregnates it with a freshness that connects with the festive and seafaring spirit of the island.

In addition, the dramaturgy of the show has been developed by the anthropologist Damián Rodríguez, in charge of ensuring that each element of the show is integrated respectfully with the valuable intangible heritage that supports the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches. This research work has allowed new musical creations, such as Habanera para Arrecife (Jaime Quesada), Recuerdos (Sergio Betancort) and Sorondongo de Los Navegantes (Lucero de Los Verdes), to be incorporated naturally into the repertoire of the group, demonstrating the vitality of the tradition.

The musical accompaniment will be provided by Miguel Ángel Cabrera (accordion), Samuel García (lute), Omar Pérez (bass) and Adrián Niz (guitar), who will contribute with their interpretation a vibrant sound that will make this show an unforgettable experience.

An invitation to experience Carnival with passion

The president of the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches, Juan Antonio Machado, highlighted the importance of this show as a living manifestation of the Carnival of Lanzarote: "In this show we combine our music with the dance and the festive atmosphere of the Carnival. We want to spread our seafaring energy to you. I invite you to let yourself go and experience each note and each step with intensity. What you will see here is not just a representation. It is our history. It is our passion to keep it alive."

The Cabildo of Lanzarote encourages all citizens to attend and enjoy this unique show, which celebrates the cultural identity of the island through music, dance and theater. Tickets for Vientos de Alegría are now available for a price of 5 euros on the platform. Buy tickets.
