This Tuesday, the Tías City Council delivered three defibrillators designed for use by non-medical personnel for cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the heads of the Alcalde Rafael Cedrés, Concepción Rodríguez Artiles, and Mácher-La Asomada Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers (CEIP).
The City Council has also acquired, with its own funds, two other defibrillators for the sports areas of the Tías and Puerto del Carmen Secondary Education Institutes (IES). The total municipal investment amounts to 7,265.40 euros.
The mayor, José Juan Cruz, the Councilor for Human Resources, Tomás Silvera, and the Councilor for Health, Laura Callero, together with the Councilor for Youth, Christopher Notario, delivered the defibrillators to each educational center, whose students are receiving practical training on pulmonary resuscitation promoted by the City Council.
Tomás Silvera and Laura Callero have highlighted the importance of having external defibrillators to save lives since they can reverse ventricular fibrillation or sudden death by restoring the normal rhythm of the heart by administering an electrical shock to the patient's chest.
The councilors emphasized that Tías "is a cardioprotected municipality."
Last year, the City Council installed 10 defibrillators in its municipal offices, both in its main building and in the Local Police building, Social Welfare building, Tías Municipal Theater, Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez wrestling arena, Francisco Bermúdez Hernández "Pancho" football field, Sports Pavilion, Tegoyo Shelter, El Fondeadero Civic Center, Puerto del Carmen football field, and the Roads and Works warehouse.
