The Platform against Noise of Arrecife has publicly expressed its "deep discomfort and indignation" over the repeated celebration of concerts and events sponsored by public bodies (City Council and Cabildo) and private ones that have the approval or inaction of the municipality. These events, which continue to be scheduled near residential areas, they say, "do not take into account a fundamental right that affects the health and rest of the neighbors."
"The neighbors have been enduring a continuous escalation of concerts, festivals, and noisy events for years, which turn the right to rest into something secondary compared to political and economic interests. Enough of seeking easy applause through permanent parties, while hundreds of residents see their health, sleep, and quality of life altered," it states.
"There are many examples we could cite: the recent Isla Latina festival that ended at three in the morning, far exceeding the decibels permitted by law. Of particular note is what is happening in Plaza de Las Palmas and its surroundings, where residents are affected by the music from some establishments and by the noise generated by people consuming on the street. We also highlight the weekly rehearsals of a batucada group in Valterra and the nightclubs in the Marina of Arrecife that every weekend delight us with pounding music that can last until six in the morning," they continue.
The platform asks itself if "do the institutions really believe that this model of permanent leisure is what Arrecife needs? Are they aware of the level of indignation that exists among many citizens who feel abandoned by those who should protect their well-being?".
From the Platform against Noise, they demand from public administrations "responsibility and respect for the Laws on acoustic pollution that protect us and to stop investing so much public money in matters that are not of primary necessity."
