The PSOE reproaches the Teguise government for its "negligence" in recovering two million euros from the BBVA

“It seems to us an exercise in irresponsibility, for the time elapsed, for the amount and the decade they have had to recover money from all the people of Teguise, but with this government of the Canarian Coalition almost nothing surprises us,” says Bergaz.

The PSOE of Teguise denounces the "negligence", “apathy” or "reluctance" of the Teguise government after acknowledging, in the plenary session last Thursday, that "they have not exercised legal actions against the BBVA entity to recover more than two million euros from all the people of Teguise for a toxic banking operation", despite the fact that two years have passed since the plenary agreement to do so.

Specifically, "the damage caused to the municipal coffers amounts to 2,163,229.51 euros, without the Canarian Coalition government in Teguise having managed to cancel the banking product and recover the millionaire amount for more than a decade, as other municipalities on the island have achieved for years”, points out the socialist spokesperson, Marcos Bergaz.

For the socialists, "far from the government being applied to this issue, we find that two years after agreeing in plenary to exercise legal actions to cancel the product and achieve the reimbursement of the money, they have not filed the corresponding lawsuit for this purpose", says Bergaz.

"They have only proceeded in July 2021 - more than a year ago - to propose a conciliation with the banking entity, which obviously ended without any agreement", laments the socialist leader who adds "with how quickly banks are when it comes to claiming their debts from customers, the inability of the Canarian Coalition government to do the same and recover what belongs to the municipality is not explained”.

“We thought it would be a mistake when weeks ago we requested access to the documentation and actions carried out, but no, there is no legal claim because two years later they have not even hired the lawyer for that purpose”, the socialists point out.

“It seems to us an exercise in irresponsibility, for the time elapsed, for the amount and the decade they have had to recover money from all the people of Teguise, but with this government of the Canarian Coalition almost nothing surprises us”, concludes Bergaz.
