The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has disseminated a note about unexecuted subsidies "with the objective of hiding his management incapacity, in a context in which the institution accumulates serious breaches, such as not submitting its general accounts on time and returning already obtained funding for the island".The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has been forceful in evaluating the actions of the insular president. “Oswaldo Betancort is lying to hide his incapacity. They have not lost that funding: they have had to return it because they have not been able to execute it or justify it. It is money that the previous government obtained for Lanzarote and that this government has let slip away due to its lack of management,” stated González. The socialist spokesperson recalled that these funds were achieved "thanks to the work of the previous island government and the collaboration with the Government of Spain and other administrations, which demonstrates the PSOE's ability to attract resources and opportunities for the island".

“This note is, in reality, proof that the PSOE obtained historic funding for Lanzarote. What happens is that the current government has been incapable of converting those resources into real projects. They have done nothing, and that is why they have had to return them,” he/she pointed out.

González warned that this situation "is not an isolated fact, but rather part of a pattern of mismanagement that affects even the most basic responsibilities of the Cabildo".

“We are facing a government that manages poorly and late even the ordinary. They have failed to fulfill their obligation to submit the general accounts, they have lost the fishing concession and now they acknowledge that they have had to return millions of euros that were already secured for Lanzarote. It is the evidence of a management without direction and without capacity,” he denounced.

The socialist spokesperson lamented that, three years after taking office, Betancort "still has no results to present and is now using funds obtained by the previous executive to try to justify his own lack of management".

“Three years later, the only thing they can present is a note about the money that others obtained for this island, implicitly recognizing that they have had to return it for not having done their job. They cannot hide their inability by blaming those who did bring funding and opportunities for Lanzarote,” concluded Ariagona González.

The PSOE of Lanzarote demands that the current government group "assume its responsibility, stop looking for excuses and focus on rigorously managing public resources, instead of trying to confuse citizens to cover up its lack of management".
