The socialists of Lanzarote have expressed, through their island secretary and deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, “their deepest regret for the death of José Miguel Pérez, an undisputed reference of Canarian politics and a man of consensus, always committed to improving our land”.
Throughout his public life, José Miguel was vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Minister of Education, president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and leader of the socialists of the archipelago. "An honest and approachable politician, who always defended the interests of citizens with passion and conviction, with a firm commitment to social justice, education and equality", they say.
"Throughout his career, José Miguel frequently reiterated that he wanted to bring the forms of teaching to politics, a way of understanding public service that defined him as a man of dialogue, moderation and the search for understanding, always willing to listen and build bridges between different sensibilities", they recall.
“His legacy will remain with us. In this painful moment, we want to convey our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, as well as a tribute to his memory and his tireless dedication to the well-being of all Canarians”, Corujo pointed out.
