The Socialist Municipal Group in the Arrecife City Council publicly denounces the "shameful and offensive attack launched by the mayor, Yonathan de León (PP), against the Socialist Party during the last municipal Plenary Session."
During his speech, the mayor went so far as to say that “the members of the PSOE intrinsically sexually abuse women in brothels”, an expression that the socialists consider repulsive, slanderous and of unprecedented political baseness.
“The level to which Yonathan de León has fallen is intolerable. Not only are we facing a mayor who degrades the Plenary Sessions and despises political debate, but now he dares to make accusations as serious as they are false about socialist militants, tarnishing their honor and that of the party we represent”, said the PSOE spokesperson in Arrecife, Alfredo Mendoza.
“The PSOE has always acted with determination and exemplary behavior in the cases that have affected its ranks. Meanwhile, if the courts have confirmed anything, it is that the Popular Party has corruption in its DNA. Those who cannot give lessons try to cover up their inability with vile attacks”, added Mendoza.
Disgraceful spectacle
The PSOE denounces that the municipal Plenary Sessions under the Mayoralty of Yonathan de León have become a disgraceful spectacle, where insult and provocation replace institutional respect. “The mayor has crossed all the limits, and he has done so in the highest democratic body of the city, tarnishing the name of Arrecife, the honor of the socialist militants and the institution he represents”, concluded the spokesperson.
The Socialist Group demands an immediate public rectification from the mayor and an end to personal, slanderous and dishonorable attacks against those who are members of other political organizations. “We are not going to tolerate anyone defaming socialist militancy. And much less from a party that justice has determined to be corrupt”, they warn.
