The PSOE has publicly denounced the deplorable state of the Arrecife Commercial pier, a strategic space for the capital that was ceded by the Las Palmas Port Authority to the Island Council under the mandate of María Dolores Corujo for its transformation into a public use space.

“Oswaldo Betancort's neglect has once again exposed his lack of a project for Arrecife. He received an emblematic space in optimal conditions to open the city to the sea, the result of the previous government's management, and he has let it die out of pure neglect,” lamented the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council, Alfredo Mendoza.

Mendoza recalled that it was the previous island government, presided over by María Dolores Corujo, who achieved the cession of more than 8,700 square meters of public port domain of the old Commercial pier, in the functional area AF-08 of the Port of Arrecife, with the aim of transforming it into a space for citizen enjoyment. The concession was processed, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and designed so that the Cabildo would assume its direct management through a temporary administrative concession.

“The work was done. All that remained was to continue with the maintenance and activation of the space. But not even that. What was supposed to be a symbol of the opening of Arrecife to the sea has become a degraded and lifeless space, a victim of Oswaldo Betancort's inability and his lack of commitment to the capital,” Mendoza denounced.

The socialist spokesperson points out that this public space was conceived to respond to a historical demand from citizens and revitalize the maritime front of the capital.

“Oswaldo Betancort is depriving citizens of a place that should be at the service of Arrecife and the entire island,” concluded the socialist spokesperson.
