The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group for Lanzarote, Marcos Bergaz, asked this Thursday in a parliamentary commission the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano Zapata, about the dismantling of the Montaña Mina wind farm, in the municipality of San Bartolomé, and demanded its "urgent" dismantling of the installation given its state of abandonment.
This park, originally of 1.125 kW and made up of five wind turbines, has been out of use since 2017, after the administrative authorization for commissioning was granted on March 10, 1992.
At this time, it has exceeded its useful life of 25 years, as results from the report of December 1, 2011, issued by the then head of service of the Ministry of Employment, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Bergaz explained that, given the state of “complete abandonment” of the installation, the San Bartolomé City Council in November 2023 requested the Government of the Canary Islands to dismantle it for “obvious” security reasons, due to the poor condition of the wind turbines and in accordance with article 25 of the Regulation that regulates the Installation and Operation of Wind Farms, approved by Decree 6/2015, of January 30.
The socialist deputy recalled that, as a result of the wind and its obsolescence, one of the wind turbines collapsed in January of last year, so the Ministry of Ecological Transition itself had to remove it. “In April they announced that they would proceed to dismantle the rest of the wind turbines immediately, but, however, we are in December and they are still in the same place.”
For Bergaz, a “more than considerable” period of time has passed since that announcement and the Ministry, “which recognizes its duty to dismantle the park, and after not obtaining a response from the company that owns it, the company Energías Limpias Canarias S.L., has not removed the four existing mills, the attached wiring and has not restored the land.”
Bergaz warned that the subsidiary action of the Government of the Canary Islands cannot be delayed any longer, “since the safety of the area is at stake and it is urgent to definitively resolve this problem.”
“If the passivity of the Ministry is due to a lack of economic resources, I anticipate that from the Socialist Group we have presented an amendment to the budgets that are being processed in Parliament to include a budget item for this purpose, so there is no possible excuse,” he added.
