The PSOE demands that Jonatan Lemes and Gladys Acuña withdraw the candidate number six from the Yaiza Siempre (YAS) list, Miguel Ángel Fernández Barrio, from the electoral lists, since he was convicted of gender violence three years ago in Lugo for a crime of domestic and gender violence against his ex-partner.
The Deputy Secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has been forceful: “We demand that the white label of the Canarian Coalition in the south, Yaiza Siempre (YAS), remove Miguel Ángel Fernández Barrio from the electoral list out of decency and dignity towards all the women of Yaiza and Lanzarote.”
“Not everything goes in politics”
The events occurred in 2019, when Fernández Barrio went to his ex-partner's home to deliver their young daughter. At that time, Fernández Barrio forcibly entered the home, despite the opposition of his ex-partner, initiating a discussion between them that led to him assaulting her, for which he was convicted by the Criminal Court Number One of Lugo.
Fernández Barrio was sentenced to 60 days of community service, deprivation of the right to possess and carry weapons for two years, a restraining order towards his ex-partner, and a prohibition from communicating with her for three years, as well as the suspension of the visitation regime of their daughter in common until the sentence is served.
The PSOE recalls “that not everything goes in politics” to the promoters of this party, Jonatan Lemes, and especially Gladys Acuña, advisor to Oswaldo Betancort in the Teguise City Council, and sentenced to 14 years of disqualification for a crime against land management and another crime of prevarication for the activity license of the Stratvs winery.
