"The fight against prospecting is not over here." This is how the island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has spoken, as soon as she learned of the ruling of the Supreme Court, endorsing prospecting off Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Corujo will study the possibility of taking the case to "international courts" to defend the sea and the way of life of these two islands.
In addition, she has pledged to intensify contacts with her colleagues in Europe, in Congress and in the Senate, "seeking institutional and political support in all areas" and believes that "the time has come to force European institutions to intervene."
"The judicial journey in defense of our sea will be long," predicted the island secretary of the PSOE, who said that for the moment it is time to wait for the Supreme Court's ruling. "From its study, we will see the possibilities of continuing before other instances."
"We have always maintained that the fight against Repsol and the authorizations of the Popular Party had to be fought on three fronts: the judicial, the political and, above all, the social. It is now up to the institutions and citizens to show their rejection. We will abide by the Supreme Court's ruling, but they cannot force us to share it, or to respect its conclusions," Corujo insisted.
Corujo has sent a message of encouragement to the citizens of Lanzarote: "We have lost a battle, but the war continues," she defended.
