El Partido Popular de Tías has denounced that the installation of antennas on the Masdache tower has already begun, which, in their opinion, “confirms and consummates a true outrage against the residents”, who thus see one of their main concerns materialize.
From the PP they regret that, despite the social rejection and the warnings made throughout the last months, the mayor has gone ahead with an action that they consider “unnecessary, poorly planned and deeply damaging for the environment and for the tranquility of the residents of Masdache and of the municipality as a whole”.
“The neighborhood concern has been completely ignored and it has been chosen to impose a model that generates rejection and that could have been avoided,” has pointed out the councilman and president of the local PP, Francisco Aparicio. Likewise, the Populars criticize one of the latest statements made by José Juan Cruz regarding the tower in which “he was trying to justify the unjustifiable shielding himself in a supposed obligation derived from state regulations.”
In this sense, the popular party clarifies that current legislation establishes the need to guarantee mobile coverage, but “in no case does it impose either the method or the specific place where these infrastructures must be installed.” “To say that there was no alternative is simply to lie. The reality is that no other technological alternatives were sought or studied that would be less aggressive and more respectful of the landscape environment of La Geria and the feelings of the residents, but they have not wanted to consider them,” they stated.
Francisco Aparicio insists that what happened evidences “a way of governing based on imposition and on the lack of dialogue”, and warns that he will continue defending the interests of the residents before decisions that they consider "harmful" for the municipality.
