The Popular Party of Yaiza has denounced the situation of "blockade and lack of management" that, in their opinion, the City Council is going through after not having yet approved the municipal budget for 2026, despite the governing group having an absolute majority.

The municipal spokesperson for the PP, Juan Monzón, has described as "unjustifiable" that the municipality continues to operate with prorated accounts at this point in the year, especially in an administration with the size and needs of Yaiza.

"It is unacceptable that a municipality like ours, which has to face important services and investments, continues without a budget in force. It is a clear sign of disorganization and lack of priorities," he stated.

Monzón has been especially critical of the mayor, Óscar Noda, whom he holds responsible for this situation as he directly holds the Finance department, in charge of the preparation of municipal accounts. "When you are mayor and also responsible for Finance, there is no room for excuses. The inability to approve the budget is the direct responsibility of whoever runs the City Council," he affirmed.

For the Popular Party, this delay shows that the governing group "is not focused on municipal management." In this regard, they point out that the mayor's islander aspirations for 2027 and his involvement in the new political project are proving to be "a detriment to the residents of Yaiza, who have gone from being a priority to being in the background."

"It gives the impression that the mayor is more concerned with his future political projection and with consolidating his space in that new formation than with moving forward with the issues that affect the daily lives of the residents of Yaiza," he criticized.

From the PP, they also warn of the practical consequences of this situation. "A budget is the basic tool for planning, investing, and providing services with guarantees. Without it, management is limited to getting by, without real capacity to respond," Monzón explained.

In the best-case scenario, he adds, the 2026 accounts will arrive months late and with a "very limited" execution margin. "We are talking about a budget that, at most, will have a real validity of five or six months. This reduces its effectiveness and compromises key investments for the municipality," he stated.

The Popular Party has also stressed that Yaiza is one of the few municipalities in Lanzarote that has not yet approved its budgets, "something especially serious for a first-order corporation on the island". "Yaiza cannot afford this lack of direction. The absence of a budget is a burden that ends up directly affecting the residents, public services, and the development of the municipality," the spokesperson insisted.
