The Popular Party of Teguise has condemned the "terrible acts of vandalism" that have occurred in different parts of the municipality, which have included burning of containers, destruction of public toilets and a multitude of graffiti on street furniture, playgrounds, public buildings and other assets, and has blamed it on the "lack of security".
"The lack of response from the government group to the demands of the Local Police is leaving the municipality with a significant deficit in night surveillance some days a week," they denounce.
The PP councilor in the Consistory, Nieves Arrocha, states that this type of attack against the public causes “enormous sadness and also great outrage”, because “they show the lack of civic-mindedness of some, and also because it is not the first time they have happened”.
For the populars, "it is essential that the municipal government redouble its efforts in terms of surveillance and security, not only to locate those responsible for these acts of vandalism, but also to prevent new episodes of these characteristics from being recorded."
“The truth is that the current conditions in which the Local Police is forced to carry out their work due to the negligence of the Oswaldo Betancort government do little to solve this problem,” denounces Nieves Arrocha, who refers to the significant deficiencies that agents have been denouncing for months and that has led to their refusal to work overtime.
"This lack of personnel leaves the municipality without local agent coverage two days a week, from eleven at night to seven in the morning, and therefore, any complaint that occurs in that period of time must be channeled with the Civil Guard", they emphasize from the PP. For the populars, "a municipality as extensive as Teguise requires more resources and personnel, although Mayor Oswaldo Betancort does not consider it a priority, demonstrating once again that he is neither here nor expected.”
