The Popular Group in the Arrecife City Council has requested "explanations and maximum transparency" from the mayor of the city, Eva de Anta, regarding the accident that occurred during the Carnival parade and which has resulted in two women injured, one of them seriously. The populars have also announced that they will request a commission of inquiry to clarify what happened and determine any responsibilities that may arise.
The spokesperson for the populars, Dácil Garcias, considers that the City Council "has not acted with total transparency insofar as it hid this fact in the information disseminated" about the event and its balance sheet. "We are not talking about a minor incident that can be ignored by the public institution responsible for the event. We are talking about two victims, one of whom is still in the hospital," Garcias pointed out.
The councilor has also shown the discomfort of her political group for the Government's refusal to provide the documentation requested two weeks ago on the security plan or plans that the City Council had prepared for the Carnival. "They did not provide it to us before, during or after the holidays. To this day, the government group has not sent us the documentation that we had requested in advance because we considered it basic and essential in an event of these characteristics." Garcias added that they do not know "the reasons why the mayor did not want to provide information to which we are entitled and which, without a doubt, we will reiterate," says Garcias.
According to what she indicated, along with this documentation they had also requested a copy of the minutes of the Security Board held by the City Council, which has not been delivered either.
The populars have also expressed their support for the two women victims of the accident and wish them a speedy recovery.
