The Popular Party has requested the urgent appearance of the president of the Cabildo, Dolores Corujo, to explain "why she has decreed that the cost of the trip made by the Podemos councilor, Jorge Peñas, be paid to him this past weekend to Tenerife to attend a clearly political event that has nothing to do with the island institution."

The decree, signed this Monday by the president, authorizes the trip of councilor Jorge Peñas to Tenerife to attend the IV Assembly of Elected Officials of the Canarian Left held last Saturday, November 5 in Tegueste, approving the right to pay for plane or boat tickets, taxi or rental car, as well as the corresponding allowances.

For the Popular Party, it is "urgent" that President Dolores Corujo explain to the citizens of Lanzarote the reasons why "now the island institution is taking care of the expenses that the councilors may have for their belonging to a political party and their participation in a party event that has nothing to do with the Cabildo itself."

From the ranks of the Popular Party, they consider that the very name of the event "is explicit enough to be a possible error or a misunderstanding in the procedure."

"There is no room for doubt when, in addition, the event has been covered this past weekend by the regional press and its political nature is clear: to rethink the project that the Canarian left represents to offer it to the citizens. It is evident that if Jorge Peñas participated in said event, he did so in representation of his party, Podemos, but not as a councilor of all the people of Lanzarote who are now being asked to pay for his trip," they point out from the PP.

"It would be very serious if President Corujo did not give the pertinent explanations about the trip of one of her councilors to which she herself has given the green light," concludes Medina.
