The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote warns that the reports that Corujo has taken out of the “hat” to support the BIC declaration of the old Hotel Oriental "have no relevance from the point of view of heritage protection since of the three alleged reports, two belong to entities and one to the artist Ildefonso Aguilar".
For the popular ones, "this new maneuver by Dolores Corujo obeys only a partisan interest in continuing to block the rehabilitation of heritage in the capital since this is the only way to explain that the maximum protection figure is used, such as a BiC, and that as everyone knows imposes requirements for its rehabilitation that are very difficult for any owner to assume".
In addition, they emphasize that according to the Gesplan report, commissioned by the Arrecife City Council to the public company of the Government of the Canary Islands, "the aforementioned property has outstanding characteristics to preserve but does not have outstanding architectural values to be declared a BIC, the highest category in heritage protection".
The popular ones remember that "the granting of the license for the rehabilitation of the property was preceded by a judicial sentence that forced the Consistory to grant it. It was then that the Cabildo imposed precautionary measures and paralyzed the start of the work".
From the ranks of the Popular Group they criticize that "while the policy of the Arrecife City Council focuses on facilitating the rehabilitation of the little heritage that remains standing in the city, the Cabildo is constantly dedicated to torpedoing all attempts that go in that line, as it does with the Plaza de Las Palmas, the Parque Ramírez Cerdá and with numerous private properties to which the City Council has granted a license with all the legal blessings".
"The reality is that Dolores Corujo is limited to putting obstacles in the rehabilitation of the capital's heritage hiding behind a false discourse of defending what is ours while the citizens only see how important buildings fall to pieces due to the obstacles and the many requirements that are put in place for their rehabilitation", conclude from The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
