REQUESTS A QUICK SHOCK ACTION

The Popular Party councilor in Teguise, Jonás Alvarez, criticizes the current state of deterioration of the La Mareta area, the garden areas and the municipal tent installed in the square.

"Abandoned gardens, cracked walls, neglect of the streets surrounding Plaza de La Mareta and a very deteriorated tent is not the best postcard for the celebration of 600 years of history or the best image to show at this Christmas time to residents and visitors", denounces the popular councilor, Jonás Álvarez.

Álvarez stresses that one of the priority tasks of the government group is to maintain the cleanliness and care of all the towns in the municipality, "putting, if possible, greater care in the Historic Center of Teguise, which is the most fragile environment and the heritage jewel of the municipality that requires permanent maintenance".

"La Villa is a must for tourists who visit us and it is not acceptable that what is precisely the object of attraction and protection is offering an image of abandonment and disinterest on the part of the government group." "If we have one of the most important old town centers in the Canary Islands, we must be very aware of it and treat it with care, as it is a priority for the local economy and from a tourist point of view", says Jonás Álvarez.

The Popular Party councilor also points out that many residents have conveyed their complaints about the poor condition of the municipal tent with broken and dirty tarpaulins and the surroundings of La Mareta, where it is clearly noticeable that no action has been taken for a long time. "The truth is that the entrance to La Villa from Teseguite is not offering the best image if we add to these damages the neglect in pruning and cleaning the garden areas of the same road", adds the councilor.

Jonás Alvarez demands that the Government of Oswaldo Betancort take quick shock action in all these points "since you cannot celebrate the 600 years of history of Teguise with great fanfare and at the same time cover up and try to sweep under the rug the deficiencies that exist in public spaces".

"The best way to celebrate such a significant anniversary is by making investments that effectively result in the improvement of our towns and emblematic spaces", adds the councilor.
