The plenary session of the Fiscal Council shows its support for Ignacio Stampa and asks for the attacks against his honor to cease

The Fiscal Council, chaired by the Attorney General, has adopted a resolution calling for the "cessation of attacks against the honor" of prosecutor Ignacio Stampa, which have occurred in various local and regional media. According to the Council, these attacks have sought to question the "professionalism and honorability" of Ignacio Stampa, due to his "procedural intervention in various judicial proceedings of notable legal and social relevance, related to land management, the environment and corruption" in Lanzarote.

Stampa represents the Public Prosecutor's Office in some of the largest corruption cases opened in Lanzarote, such as the Yate case (for the massive granting of illegal licenses in Playa Blanca), the case of the Stratvs winery and the Montecarlo case. In addition, he was involved from the beginning in the "Unión" case (in which the chief prosecutor of the Environment of Las Palmas and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office also intervened later), and he is currently continuing to lead the prosecution in some of the parts of this case.

In the agreement that the Plenary adopted on the 9th and that they have made public this Thursday, the Fiscal Council "publicly expresses its support for the actions of prosecutor Ignacio Stampa" and warns that, if these attacks continue, they could "initiate or initiate other types of actions of a legal nature".

In addition, it makes it clear that "this type of criticism has not conditioned nor will it condition the work of the Public Prosecutor's Office in fulfilling the functions imposed on it by the Spanish Constitution in defense of legality, the rights of citizens and the interest protected by law."

"Defamatory insinuations"

The Plenary of the Fiscal Council has adopted this agreement after learning of "various statements made on radio and in articles published in the press, essentially of a regional and local nature, which have sought to question the professionalism and honorability of the prosecutor assigned to the Arrecife de Lanzarote Area Prosecutor's Office", Ignacio Stampa". "Such comments notably exceed the legitimate criticism to which the professional work of every public official is exposed", argues the Fiscal Council.

And they emphasize that "without directly affirming specific criminal acts", the author (or authors) of these statements "do formulate defamatory insinuations that call into question personal behaviors that are related to procedural actions, in a way that can cause in the citizen a manifestly distorted impression about the impartial work that the Public Prosecutor's Office carries out in these proceedings."

In its writing, the Fiscal Council also emphasizes that "the regional and local scope of these publications has given it an undeniable impact at a social and corporate level, particularly intense on the island of Lanzarote, which increases the unjustified damage to the honor of the prosecutor."
