The Haría City Council has acknowledged this Friday the resignation of Chaxiraxi Niz as mayor, as La Voz announced this Thursday, to comply with the agreement with the Platform of the Municipality of Haría (PMH).

The three northern groups in the Consistory, plus the non-attached councilor Soraya Brito, attended the plenary session this Friday morning, which was held with the absences of the nationalist councilor Alejandro Hernández and the socialist Famara González. In just 15 minutes, the outgoing mayor gave a brief farewell speech, after being in office for just over a year and a half - part of it on maternity leave - and the spokespersons of the groups also had a short turn after Niz's words.

One of those who spoke at the plenary session this Friday was the socialist Alfredo Villalba, who began his short speech assuring that despite the change of mayor, "the show continues." "The name of Pepe Torres is associated with political confrontation and uncertainty", adds the socialist, who assures that it is "illogical" that it is still not known who will be the next mayor of the municipality.

Everything seems to indicate, and so have pointed out to La Voz unofficially sources of Coalición Canaria, that the next mayor will be the number of the PMH, Evelia García. However, neither CC nor PMH have confirmed it officially, and from the PSOE they assure that in the plenary session this Friday "the substitute of Chaxiraxi Niz has not been confirmed either."

"They have not released any press release, and that is what makes evident the differences of that pact between CC and the PMH, which have become palpable in these days with a question that should have been finished in May and have extended it until July 1", says the socialist spokesman.

What is known is that the Consistory has as maximum date to convene the Plenary that appoints the new mayor of the municipality on July 15, although according to the sources consulted by La Voz, the specific date is still under discussion between the groups of the Municipal Corporation.

"They have subjected the institution to embarrassment and a regrettable spectacle in the last year and a half", said the PSOE spokesman, Alfredo Villalba, to La Voz.

Coalición Canaria assures that the mayoralty has been "an enriching period"

"I give the witness with the satisfaction of having worked for and for the people of Haría in really hard times like those that have been generated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic", said the outgoing mayor in her speech.

"We have tried to attend as best as possible to all those people who have arrived looking for a better future, we have done everything humanly possible, but we have lacked the support and tools of institutions such as the Cabildo, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Government of the State, governed by the PSOE, who continue to look the other way, while municipalities such as Haría use the resources they do not have to find a solution, or at least, try to save the day to day", said Niz in her speech.

In addition, the spokesperson of the CC committee in Haría, Azucena Duque, assures that the time in which the party has been in the mayoralty - with Chaxiraxi Niz and Víctor Robayna accidentally - has been an "enriching period", in which she maintains that both leaders "have been involved to the maximum, achieving such important achievements as getting the initial approval of the first post-pandemic budgets, which amount to 8.5 million euros."

"We know the expectation that this situation has generated among the public opinion and the media, but the agreements are to be fulfilled and we have always been clear about that", said the spokesperson of the Committee, Azucena Duque, explaining that her party thus complies with what was agreed with the PMH.
