The Cabildo of Lanzarote will open the Papagayo Campsite one more year, the facilities of the camping area of this area of the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, from May 30 to September 30.
It should be remembered that during the past summer, even though it was not the responsibility of the first Island Institution, the Cabildo intervened in the management of this camping area, located in the municipal district of Yaiza, with a transitional solution that allowed this campsite to be opened for at least 45 days. A commitment that was acquired by the president of the Cabildo himself, Pedro San Ginés, during the past year.
This year, the Cabildo and the Yaiza City Council have been working together so that the campsite can be operational during the summer months, with a new collaboration agreement between both local administrations that will allow the Cabildo to take charge of the management of the campsite again, also improving all the services and facilities. To this end, the Yaiza City Council has ceded the free use of the land for the management of the service in said area and so that the first Institution can carry out some interventions.
"The management of these services in the Papagayo camping area will be entrusted, from May 30 to September 30, again to the public company Tragsa", explained the president of the Corporation, Pedro San Ginés, during the plenary session held this past Friday, April 25.
"This commission will include various actions for the commissioning of the facilities, such as the conditioning of the biological purification equipment or some cleaning interventions of water collection manholes, verification of the sanitation network of the plots and other actions that aspire to put the bathrooms back into service", San Ginés detailed. Likewise, the exterior showers and the interior bathroom accessories will be repaired (stopcocks, cisterns, taps, toilet lids and seats, mirrors, etc...). All the plots will also be spruced up, with new painting, adaptation to the current regulations of the current state of the existing electrical and fire-fighting installation.
In addition to these interventions, the Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Juan Antonio de la Hoz, specified that "this year, through the Department of Industry and Energy led by Rocío Arredondo, the planned investment will be doubled to provide this facility with new photovoltaic panels that make these facilities self-sufficient and more sustainable, being a camping area that is located in a protected natural area such as the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches".
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through this commission, will also take care of the entrance control service, cleaning of common areas and maintenance, the private security service from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., from Monday to Sunday, the disinsection and rodent control service of manholes and corners, the lifeguard service on the beach from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., from Monday to Sunday, and the cleaning services of public toilets and maintenance of purification equipment.
Public camping prices
In the plenary session of last Friday, the establishment of a public price for the provision of services at the campsite was approved. This public price is set - for the period from May 30 to September 30 - at 7 euros for caravans and motorhomes and 4 euros for houses and similar, per day. Same prices that were already established last year, during the transitional period in which the facilities were enabled.
