The Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT) has requested the mayor Jesús Machín in the last ordinary plenary session to have "seriousness" and avoid "using populist positions" on the shuttle buses and parking to visit the Mountains of Fire.
For Antonio Morales, MRT spokesman, “this twist of announcing the closure of the road if his claims are not met responds once again to the lack of foundation, to the populism to which Mr. Machin accustoms us and, more seriously, to an absolute lack of foresight and planning in something as crucial as tourism.” Morales argues.
The MRT wanted to remember that the mayor has taken several turns in relation to this matter, with totally different positions and postulates, while in 2022 he said he had reached an agreement with the previous corporation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, led by the PSOE, deceiving the population of Lanzarote about that agreement and saying that the buses were already purchased and that they would begin to operate at the beginning of 2023. "As you can see, none of that has happened," they highlighted from the party.
"He has not been able to sit down and close a solution with his CC colleagues in the Island Government that satisfies the interests of the municipality, moving us away from confrontations with the Yaiza City Council or tensions with a crucial sector such as tourism", they have maintained from the Tinajera formation.
“What I ask of the mayor is that once and for all he take foundation and leave the cheap populism to which he accustoms us, that he sit down with the parties involved to find a solution that is lasting over time and that meets two requirements, the sustainability of the Timanfaya National Park and generate certainty and confidence in our tourism sector, with our livelihoods”, Morales sentenced.
The MRT has assured that it is clear what needs to be done, and that is what we told them in the last plenary session held; He has to summon the four affected parties, the Yaiza City Council, the Lanzarote Cabildo, the National Park and the Tinajo City Council, agree on a solution, close an agreement and request all the pertinent sectoral reports, because we are not talking about a Tourist Center for use, we are talking about a National Park. Therefore, he cannot equate the Haría agreement with that of Tinajo either, since the legal and economic nature of both places of interest for the visitor has nothing to do with it. The Renovating Movement defends.
In short, MRT has asked for coherence, planning and dialogue with the intervening entities and a social peace that allows the durability of an agreement that will be a guarantee for tour operators and for the National Park.
