This facility is the "main alternative of Wing 46, based in Gando, and which operates as a Deployment Unit with the mission of providing operational and logistical support to any air unit of the Air Force that operates from it", as reported by the Ministry of Defense.

The visit to Lanzarote will close a tour that María Dolores de Cospedal will make of military facilities of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force in the Canary Islands on July 19 and 20.
