The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium celebrated an emotional event this Friday on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, highlighting the commitment and selfless service of the Civil Protection groups from the seven municipalities of the island, on the Islote de Fermina.
The event brought together representatives from all municipal corporations and volunteers. It also featured the presence of the vice-president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, and the president of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio. Furthermore, during the event, the public enjoyed a performance in collaboration with the Insular Center for Musical Education.
The vice-president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, emphasized the need "to continue supporting and professionalizing the work of volunteers, underscoring the coordination between the different administrations".
"Lanzarote's safety depends directly on the close collaboration between the Cabildo, the Consortium, the town councils, and, most importantly, on the strength of our volunteer groups. From the Cabildo, we will continue to promote the necessary resources so that these anonymous heroes have the best training and equipment to carry out their essential work," Tovar asserted
During the event, the Consortium presented distinctions and recognitions to the Civil Protection groups of the seven town councils on the island, as well as to the Red Cross, for their constant dedication in prevention, response, and logistical support in all types of emergencies. The recognition symbolizes institutional gratitude for the hundreds of hours of unpaid work that guarantee the safety and well-being of citizens.
For his part, the president of the Security and Emergencies Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, highlighted the fundamental role of volunteering "as the first link in the chain of emergencies"."Civil Protection volunteering is the heart of our safety net. Their dedication, which ranges from monitoring large-scale events to supporting crisis situations, is the most generous display of civic commitment. This recognition is a humble gesture to thank them for the time and effort they invest in protecting their neighbors," Aparicio concluded
