The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Tuesday the increase in the economic allocation intended for the Call for Subsidies to Non-Profit Entities for the Development of Projects Aimed at Social Intervention, which goes from the initially planned 784,543.86 euros to a final total of 1,274,543.86 euros.
The measure represents an effective increase of 490,000 euros, a historic expansion that will allow for a greater number of social initiatives presented by Third Sector entities on the island to be supported, as well as strengthening care for individuals and groups in vulnerable situations.
"This Cabildo keeps its word: more support, more investment, and more social commitment," stated the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who described this budgetary increase as "an unequivocal demonstration of this institution's commitment to the organizations that, day by day, provide direct care to those most in need. We said we would not leave any entity working for the well-being of our people behind, and today we are fulfilling that promise," Betancort declared.
This investment will allow us to reach more families, more people with disabilities, women victims of gender-based violence, young people, the elderly, migrants, and groups affected by complex situations requiring professional and close support. This achieves greater coverage thanks to an expansion motivated by high demand.
The file states that, after evaluating all applications, the investigating body detected the insufficiency of the initial credit to cover all the projects presented, which led to the processing of the extension to guarantee the continuity of essential initiatives in the island's social fabric.
Supporting Key Social Areas
The call for proposals subsidizes intervention projects in key areas such as Childhood, youth and family, Equality and fight against gender violence, Diversity, Addictions, Disability and dependency, Social inclusion and homelessness, Immigration, and Community projects and support for basic needs.
"It was necessary to increase these funds so that the social impact would be real and sufficient," clarified the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña. He added: "This decision responds to an evident reality: social demand is growing and organizations need resources to reach all territories and all groups. Our priority is that no valuable project is left out due to lack of budget. Thanks to this increase, we will be able to support more initiatives and do so in a proportional, transparent, and equitable manner, as established by the call for applications," the minister clarified.
Acuña has "sincerely" thanked the work of Third Sector organizations, "which act as an essential support for the Cabildo, especially in contexts of greater social vulnerability".
The approved expansion will be published in the National Database of Subsidies and in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, in accordance with current regulations
